Welcome to Gyranda Santa Gertrudis Stud, Stud No 3, with its trademark 
brand. It is owned by Burnett and Louise Joyce and family. Gyranda is situated on the Dawson River, near Theodore (Queensland).

"Gyranda" is considered one of the most beautiful properties in Queensland, or in fact Australia. It was a wildlife sanctuary from 1960 to 1995, and when the government stopped this, we continued to protect both animals and vegetation types. The results are easily seen, with a great diversity of Australian flora and fauna. We have been involved in the fish industry for over forty years, firstly in a research capacity, and then as an exporter of Saratoga Leichardi, and then as a supplier for restocking dams for recreational fishing.

In recent year we have expanded our operation, purchasing "Woolshed", a nearby property and leasing "The Pride", a neighbouring property owned by a Gold Mine in Cracow (where we run a commercial herd of 300 Santa Gertrudis cows).
"Woolshed" has been taken over by our daughter and son in law Peter and Nikki Mahony. They purchase most of our surplus weaner heifers and steers, as they are pleased with the performance, when compared with other bought cattle they have trialed.

"Gyranda" runs 3000 cattle, with 800 stud females and 600 commercial females. The main enterprise is providing seed stock to stud and commercial operators. The cattle are the result of four generations of Joyce family member's commitment to breeding quality cattle, bred along commercial values.
"Gyranda" is able to service demands ranging from a single producer who may require a single bull, to large scale operators requiring a selection of hundreds. Semen is also available from select stud sires, and is sold both in Australia and overseas.
As cattle are being pushed into less productive regions throughout the world, the cattle are being sought after, suiting the tropical beef breeding regions of northern Australia, the arid centre and the colder areas in the south. The genetics are being sought with semen being exported to countries including Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Zimbabwe, the USA and New Zealand.
