Stud Achievements
Research & Development
Gyranda's successes can be traced back over the decades. They include:
- 1985 Gyranda joined Breedplan on its inception, providing performance figures, in the form of EBV's (Estimated Breeding Values) on cattle.
- 1988 A breakthrough in the use of DNA, using muscle tissue of a carcass to trace parentage of a Champion Gyranda Steer - a world first!
- First Santa Gertrudis stud to use DNA to establish pedigree on progeny from multiple sire herds and the first stud to register these cattle with the stud association.
- 1992 - 1997 Gyranda bred cattle under contract for CRC (Co-operative Research Centre for Beef) research in the world's largest beef progeny testing programs.
- 1993 - 1999 Involvement in the Bull Power 1 & 2 Projects.
- 2004 commmenced recording Flight Speed data to produce an E.B.V. for docility.
- 2005 involvement in Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) with Bullpower, a project to develop management strategies that will maximize the calf output of bulls of desired genotypes in northern Australia.
- Ongoing research in co-operation with AGBU (Animal Genetics & Breeding Unit).
- In May 2006 Burnett Joyce was awarded the RW Vincent Award for his outstanding contribution to the Beef Breeding industry in Australia.
