Our policy is to join our heifers as yearlings. All females have a 4 months joining period, with strict culling on reproductive performance.
Scrotal Size in bulls is highly correlated with age of sexual maturity in the females. Our selection for this has helped ensure the fertility of our cattle.
These first calf heifers produced weaner progeny averaging 280Kg at 7 - 8 months of age, off pasture, without supplementation.... in a 650 mm rainfall area. They had a 93% pregnancy rate.
